Souls to the Polls

Since the Reconstruction Era, Black communities have faced violent and systemic attacks on their right to vote. In the late 50s, Black churches began to organize events around election days to vote in community with each other. These events often began at church and ended with community celebrations.
Inspired by this organizing by the Black community, regional community groups will host morning coffee gatherings before traveling to their local early voting location and casting their ballots in the 2024 General Election.
Once they have voted, participants will head to a community gathering for a celebration of the right to vote.
